Edinburgh Tours and History

Edinburgh Walking Tours, Chambers Street, Edinburgh EH1 1JF, UK – 07950 003885

Fraser gave us THE best tour of our lives! He was very gracious and took us incredibly last minute, we literally walked up to him after he’d finished his last tour of the day to see if he could take us and he did! He asked us what we wanted to see and tailored the tour to our group. Before we moved on to the next thing he would explain what we were about to do and ask if that was okay with us, making sure we got to see and learn about exactly what it was we wanted. Fraser was funny, incredibly knowledgeable, a great story teller, and very patient in answering questions. I would highly recommend booking a tour with Fraser!

Fraser was the best tour guide ever! Not only was he knowledgeable, but he was engaging for a group with a wide range of ages, making sure that there was something to interest everyone. He was very accommodating to our group, and really wanted us to learn as much as possible. After the tour was over he even walked us to a recommended restaurant for dinner. He really went above and beyond all expectations and I would highly recommend booking a tour with him on your next trip to Edinburgh!

The University of Edinburgh Gift Shop

2 Charles St, Edinburgh EH8 9AD, UK – 0131 650 2252

Friendly staff. I was pleasantly surprised by the diversity of products. Shouldn't be hard to find something nice for every taste and budget.

I can't compliment the gift shop enough for their extraordinary, friendly and timely service in helping me order an item. They were wonderfully helpful and patient with my order (which was complicated by the fact that I live in the US). Thank you!

Pub Crawl

86 Grassmarket, Edinburgh EH1 2JR, UK – 0131 510 7575

If you are travelling alone in Edinburgh, Pub Crawl is a great way to meet people from all over the world. The more people you bring, the merrier. I wish I had known about Pub Crawl and its crazy events they hold every weekend much sooner!

Pub crawl bar tour was amazing he kept the group upbeat all night, free entry to 4 bars and discounted drinks really makes it an affordable nightout in Edinburgh! Already planned another night and recommended night out in Edinburgh!

I took a two day tour, starting on 14 May, with this company. The guide, unfortunately I can not remember his name, raised the business of touring to the status of art. He made art touring while showing us Scotland. He not only provided a safe driving but enriched our education and information about Scotland in an entertained Scottish humor and authentic Scottish accent. I recommend this touring company to all visitors to this beautiful region.

Wonderful tour in the Scottish Highlands. Our guide and driver Alan managed to drive the narrow road and throughout the 12 hour ride, share an amazing variety of information of Scottish history, the gaelic names, heights of mountains and depths of Lochs and much more. Very, very interesting and educating - we highly recommend this tour to both young and old.

Local Eyes Tours - Private Tours

Christian Aid Scotland, 41 George IV Bridge, Edinburgh EH1 1EL, UK – 07769 265952

We had an amazing introduction to Edinburgh with Chris P. on our family's first and long-anticipated trip to Scotland. We could not have asked for a better way to kick off our trip. Chris P. was highly knowledgeable about Edinburgh's rich history and even shared a wee dram with all of us at the end of the tour which sparked our whisky palettes for the rest of the trip. Chris the owner was so helpful with planning leading up to the trip. In the planning process, he provided a list of restaurants in Edinburgh which we referred to throughout our entire stay in the city and ate at a few spots which were outstanding. He went out of his way to help me with some of my planning. We were going on a round trip tour of the country after our stay in Edinburgh and he gave me multiple recommendations for stops on our road trip up through the Highlands. Would highly recommend Local Eyes Tours.

I booked a day tour to the central Highlands with my family, and could not have been more pleased! We originally thought of renting a car for a day trip out of Edinburgh, but since I was nervous to drive the "wrong side" of the road, we decided to book a tour. So glad that we did- we would not have had the same same level of experience on our own. The email contact prior to the trip was top notch, the itinerary was tweaked to match my family's interests, and our day with Moira was the highlight of our trip! She was a great source of info, was enthusiastic, and went above and beyond to make this a special experience for us. When a jaded 15 year old says "this was my favorite day- super cool" you know it is exceptional. Highly recommended.

Highland Explorer Tours

60 High St, Edinburgh EH1 1TB, UK – 0131 558 3738

I booked a 3 day tour of Skye and highlands for myself and my parents. The Highland Explorer Tours did a great job in putting together a great itinerary of places to see. Accommodation at B&B locations was also good. I highly recommend this company. Thank you Lee for being an awesome driver and guide.

A friend and I did the 3 day Highland Trip about a month ago. Duncan was our guide and he was fabulous. He kept us on schedule, yet we never felt rushed. He provided explanations before we would get to the sights and had wonderful stories to tell about the history and folk lore. He also allowed times for rest. Duncan clearly enjoyed his work and it showed. Wish he could have accompanied us as we continued our vacation elsewhere--we missed his explanations and stories.

Local Parks & Gardens

Ferniehill Community Park

47A Ferniehill Rd, Edinburgh EH17 7BL, UK – 0131 529 5151

Very nice park with good playground. It's fairly clean like for local standards.

Great little park pity some dog owners do not pick up their dogs poo. Children play in the park shame about the poo

Craigmillar Castle Park

Old Dalkeith Rd, Edinburgh EH16 4TB, UK – 0131 529 2401

Nestled in between the council tip and an area under regeneration, you wouldn't think that there would be such a good park. Possibly Edinburghs coolest climbing frame for kids, nice walks and a bike path. Just a pity it's taken me 4 years to try it out.

Beautiful park. Also dogs allowed to castle

Liberton Public Park

Liberton Gardens, Edinburgh EH16 6JS, UK – 0131 529 5151

My 3 year old loves the play ground here, although the park itself is basically just a big field!

Great day with children lots of space to run about small play area and picnic table only negative comment lack of public toilet had to leave early no where for children to go . Would have got four if there was better facilities.

Great website!. Click below to find gardens open during the year around Edinburgh or Edinburgh. There are photos and lots of detail about the garden.
