Local Restaurants & Places to Eat around Edinburgh

The Outsider Restaurant

George IV Bridge, Edinburgh EH1 1EE, UK – 0131 226 3131

Had a lovely lunch here with my son. The menu was varied but would have benefited from being re-printed as there were scratch and sniff areas left by other diners. Service was good and the food was beautiful. Quite surprised by the bill as it was very reasonable for such a nice restaurant. I had the burger and my son had the belly pork. Both were good portions that tasted great and the chips were fab. A lovely lunch time experience.

Good company always enhances good food and The Outsider did not fail on its side of that equation. We had a centre table with a view of the castle even though we had not booked. The food was well present, flavoursome, fresh and of an adequate portion. Service was courteous and appropriate even though the restaurant was busy. The decor is simple and effective. Rather rustic with exposed brick, wooden panels, simple white tables (a tad small) and basic chairs. All-in-all an enjoyable first visit to The Outsider. Hopefully the first of many to check that I didn't get this initially review wrong.

Howies Restaurant

10-14 Victoria St, Edinburgh EH1 2HG, UK – 0131 225 1721

Good restaurant. We had the 3 course meal option for around £13.50. It was good to get a taste of lots of things but the serving sizes were a little bit too small. Came here for haggis and wasn't disappointed, great place if you want a good haggis. Very nice atmosphere as well.

Need to book beforehand if you're coming on Jan 1. Otherwise the staff would just dismiss you. My first visit in September though, was a different story. Had a lovely time having dinner there, especially with haggis and soup of the day.

Apiary

33 Newington Rd, Edinburgh EH9 1QR, UK – 0131 668 4999

Food is interesting AND delicious. Service always good but especially when wee ones are involved. Their taster menu events are very worthwhile. Apiary is a neighbourhood favourite of ours.

We've been here 3 or 4 times now in our short stay in Edinburgh. Nice food and great place to relax and bring the baby for lunch. Interesting menu with local produce, would highly recommend
